As you already know, the City of Colville has a female black bear with cubs on the north hill in Colville. The WDF&W has been trying to trap them for relocation but they are apparently getting enough to eat elsewhere that the trap isn’t especially appealing to them.

The word from WDF&W is that if they cannot trap them soon, they may have to be euthanized out of concern for public safety. It’s been asked of the City if we would consider closing the trail system on Colville Mountain for a couple of weeks to keep the public safe and allow the trap to be left in place and open 24-7. I have authorized this closure and would also ask that residents on the north hill in Colville to please move their trash receptacles into their garages or other enclosure until these bears can be caught and relocated. It’s the appropriate action as opposed to killing these animals and I’d be very grateful to these residents their willing compliance.
